Safe Swaddling: When, How, and When to Stop

Follow safe sleep guidance; stop at first signs of rolling. Not medical advice.

Safety Principles

How‑To (Basic Wrap)

  1. Lay blanket in a diamond; fold top corner down.
  2. Place baby with shoulders at the fold; arms down at sides or hands to chest if preferred.
  3. Wrap one side snugly across and under the body.
  4. Fold up bottom allowing hip/leg movement.
  5. Wrap the other side across and secure; ensure breathing is unobstructed.

When to Stop

At first roll attempts, rolling to side, or repeated arm escapes. Transition to arms‑out or a sleep sack.
